Interior architecture has the ability to transform the way people perceive, experience and connect with the spaces they inhabit. In a society increasingly defined by immediacy and fast-paced consumption, there is a growing need for environments that encourage pause, meaningful interaction and shared experiences. This Final Degree Project aims to investigate and apply the principles of interior design to respond to this need, integrating functionality, identity and sensory experience within a building of significant architectural value. The intervention takes place in the building located at Serrano 130, Madrid, a landmark of Madrid’s Rationalist architecture and one of the key references in the introduction of Modern Architecture to the city. The project seeks to respect and preserve the historical and architectural character of the building while reinterpreting its spatial qualities, materiality and design principles through a contemporary approach that responds to current standards of comfort, accessibility and user experience. Under the concept of ETHRA – Wine & Food Experience, the proposal transforms the building into a destination dedicated to wine culture, gastronomy and social interaction. However, the project is not centred solely on wine as a product, but on the experiences, conversations and human connections that wine has the ability to create. ETHRA is conceived as a place where visitors can discover their own way of enjoying, learning and sharing, adapting to different rhythms, interests and forms of engagement. The programme is organised across different levels, each offering a complementary experience. The wine bar and restaurant act as the social core of the project, encouraging interaction and wine appreciation within a carefully curated atmosphere. Dedicated workshop spaces provide opportunities for learning and participation through educational and gastronomic activities, while private rooms offer more intimate settings for meetings, exclusive tastings and personalised events. The intervention is completed through the enhancement of the outdoor areas, conceived as an extension of the interior experience and designed to accommodate a variety of uses and events. In this way, ETHRA becomes a comprehensive destination where architecture, gastronomy, learning and social connection converge into a single experiential journey, transforming a significant example of Madrid’s modern architectural heritage into a contemporary space for enjoyment, culture and meaningful human interaction.
