Description
Osmosis proposes the transformation of “Casa del Marqués de Villora,” designed by Rafael Bergamín, into a cultural and recreational centre dedicated to art, nature, and thought. Located on Calle Serrano in Madrid, the project reimagines the historic building as a “living ecosystem” where visitors can engage with culture while reconnecting with themselves and the environment. The project creates an opportunity to provide not only functional spaces but also spaces capable of supporting reflection, learning, creativity, and renewal in a contemporary city such as Madrid, where there is constant movement, stimulation, and acceleration that often leave little room for contemplation and meaningful engagement with one´s surroundings. Ultimately, Osmosis is conceived as a refuge within the city, a place intentionally discovered rather than immediately encountered, where architecture, nature, and culture create the conditions for growth, reflection, and renewal. The title “Osmosis” references the biological process through which elements move across a membrane in pursuit of balance. This principle is translated into spatial terms. Visitors, ideas, experiences, and forms of knowledge circulate between spaces and create opportunities for interaction, learning, contemplation, and personal growth. Therefore, the project functions as an ecosystem where different forms of exchange contribute to individual and collective development. The intervention establishes a dialogue between the rational Principles of Bergamin's architecture and a contemporary spatial organisation inspired by living systems. Preserving clarity and order that promotes movement, permeability, and continuity by transmitting these qualities into a more fluid and interconnected environment. The project draws from the principles that govern living systems rather than approaching it as a source of formal imitation. Processes such as exchange, adaptation, growth, and equilibrium become the conceptual foundation of the intervention.
