Description

The Madison Foncée project is developed through the renovation and transformation of the site linked to the Casa del Marqués de Villora, a residential and representative space in Madrid. The proposal starts from an existing location, where the architecture and its surroundings become the key elements for conceptualising the new use of the site. The location is ideal for the development of a high-end restaurant and gastronomic experience, as it is situated in a strong urban area of Madrid, while also being calm and part of a high-level residential context. Madison Foncée is therefore placed in an area where the client seeks quality, privacy, comfort and gastronomic experience based on enjoyment and disconnection. The site also has the advantage of including an outdoor garden area. This feature strengthens the concept of Madison Foncée, as the garden and its vegetation work as an extension of the restaurant itself. The building was originally a well-known named Marquis residence, with an architectural language based on functionality and visual experience. The COAM architectural guide considers the ‘Casa del Marqués de Villora’ one of the first examples of Spanish rationalism, although the building has undergone transformations over the years. Maison Foncée takes this existing condition as its starting point, respecting the house's architectural character while adapting it to a new and different use. The assessment of the building highlights its potential for a vertical professional perspective for me as a designer, its domestic scale, its connection with exterior areas, and the possibility of creating a strong contrast between the existing architecture and the immersive gastronomic atmosphere of its new use.
